Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa Puja

By Sacinandana Swami, August, 2017

When an acarya (a spiritual preceptor and founder) appears in this world, he brings with him a method that can ferry souls across the material existence to their original home – the spiritual world. In other words, he brings a vehicle to cross the material universes – a boat to safety. That boat consists of his enlightened instructions for the benefit of all.

Those who are experienced in spiritual science know that by submission and service to the lotus feet of a pure devotee one directly contacts the Supreme Personality of Godhead.” (Quoted in Srila Prabhupada, Meditation Book on His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, page 31)

It is important to stay firmly connected with such a great soul even after his physical disappearance. The Bhagavatam clarifies,

Those in this world who try to tame the uncontrolled mind, but who abandon the feet of their spiritual master, encounter hundreds of obstacles in their cultivation of various distressful practices. O unborn Lord, they are like merchants on a boat in the ocean who have failed to employ a helmsman.” (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.87.33)

On the Divine Appearance Day of Srila Prabhupada, it is good to focus on his divine instructions of improving the main practice or method he has given. In his own words,

I have not come to teach you, but only to request you to please chant the name of God. Please chant this Hare Krishna mantra, be cleansed of your consciousness, and understand your spiritual identity.”

(Srila Prabhupada in a conversation with Father Emanuel Jungclaussen, a Benedictine monk from Niederalteich Monastery in 1974, in Germany & Srila Prabhupada in Rome, 1974, Public Meeting and Lecture on Bhagavad Gita 4.10)

A Prayer to Srila Prabhupada

When I was with you in your presence, you always lifted me out of my material consciousness and somehow brought me into Krishna consciousness just by your silent smile.

Today I read about your extraordinary power to affect change in the life of others. In your own words,

That is the way of Krishna consciousness. Pure devotees are so absorbed in thought of Krishna that they have no other engagement; although they may seem to think or act otherwise, they are always thinking of Krishna. The smile of such a Krishna conscious person is so attractive that simply by smiling he wins so many admirers, disciples and followers.” (Srimad Bhagavatam 3.22.21 purport)

Dear Srila Prabhupada, kindly continue to smile on me and my efforts to please you - and attract me into your own world where you are by Sri Krishna’s side.
