The Diary of a Pilgrim 2016 - The Fully Sheltered Bird

By Sacinandana Swami

When I left the house of my godbrother at 8pm – he pointed to a little tree in the courtyard, where a tiny beautiful bird sat alone perched on one of the branches. “He comes here every night to sleep on his branch. In the morning he flies away. You can go close, he will not be afraid.”

Eye to eye with a little bird – I saw someone who had found perfect shelter, and had lost all anxieties. This is Vindavana life, I thought – taking full shelter, and resting in the loving protection of the Lord, much like Bhaktivinoda Thakura expresses:

I have finally understood, O Lord, that Your lotus feet bestow complete freedom from lamentation, fearlessness and immortality… I am Your eternal servitor; I realize this at long last. The burden of my upkeep is now Your concern.”

(From Saranagati – Faith in Krishna’s Protection)
