The Diary of a Pilgrim 2016 - Don´t Fear to Surrender, He Will Take Care

By Sacinandana Swami

We are already walking for many hours through the dusty field paths of Vraja-mandala – happily singing the Holy Name. Amazing landscapes, valleys with old knotted kadamba trees, ponds, peacocks, cuckoos, parrots, blue antelopes, ancient temples, amazing ascetics, intriguing stories about Krishna… Everything is blissful – except for the hunger which keeps on increasing every “blissful” kilometer.

Finally, it gets so intense that I hear my stomach growling. Just when I want to stop singing and look for something to eat, a farmer appears before us and with humble gestures begs us to come into his house. Our kirtan gets a new boost of inspiration, and soon several Vrajavasis dance with us in the inner courtyard.

In the back, two ladies ignite a wood fire and begin cooking Vraja rotis (delicious flatbread made over open fire).

This is a wish-fulfilling land – I realize. Maybe one of the wish-fulfilling trees under which I passed heard my prayer. Better be careful and make sure that I have the right kind of desires. As Krishna says:

“With pleasure I carry what My devotees need – just like a householder who brings the food to those who depend on him.”

(From Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura in his comment on the well-known text in the 9th chapter of the Gita.)
