Japa Inspirations Day 16 - Obtaining Faith!

For any devotional activity, like your sadhana, you need faith. Faith is the entrance gate into the palace of bhakti. We require only faith to move forward, so if you want to increase the quality of your japa, you need to look at your faith.

For that reason, to increase our faith, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu spoke the first verse of His Siksastakam prayers, which describe the amazing results that happen in the life of the chanter of the Holy Names. Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami summarizes these results in a very practical and tangible way. He says “Chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra destroys the sinful condition of material existence.” This means that you are actually starting your blissful spiritual life by chanting. No longer material existence! You become slowly an enlightened Krishna conscious soul. He also says: “This chanting purifies the unclean heart.”

Imagine how relieved we will be when we are free from all these unnecessary desires and desire only Krishna. According to Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami, Lord Caitanya says that all varieties of devotional service are awakened only by chanting. All of a sudden, a chanter will feel the inner strength to engage in various ecstatic devotional practices.

Finally, the results of chanting are related to the awakening of love for Krishna and tasting transcendental bliss. Ultimately the chanter will achieve Krishna’s divine association in the kingdom of God, and there engage in devotional service. This is compared by Caitanya Mahaprabhu with diving into an ocean of pure nectar.

May your faith increase as you read the first verse of the Siksastakam prayers; then your chanting will be very, very easy.
