Kartik Inspirations Day 9 - Bahulastami Bath

Welcome to day 9 of the Kartik inspirations.

Rejoice! Today is a festival day. All of Vrindavan tries to get to the lake of Radha, Radhakund, and at midnight, when the appearance of that divine lake is said to have taken place, they all try to get into this lake. Although there are so many people, it is a joyful and somehow uplifting atmosphere with a lot of song and a lot of excitements.

What is so special about Radhakund and the lake just next to Radhakund , which is known as Shyamakund or Krishnakund? The ancient scripture Vraja-riti-cintamani says, “Out of great kindness to the people of the world, so that they could directly taste the sweetness of Radha and Krishna, the Divine couple has become these two lakes. Shining with happiness, the devotees bathe in these two lakes.”

Srila Praphupada has spoken about this in The Nectar of Instruction. He said, “It is stated that a devotee will at once develop pure love of Krishna in the wake of the gopis, if he once takes a bath in Radhakund.”

We may wonder: Is it that simple? Just one single bath in the holy lake and I will have reached the state of perfection? Well, it is explained elsewhere that these blessings are like seeds. They need to grow and in due course of time they will manifest the flower. This is bound to happen, unless you of course do something so out of style that you kill the seed. The bath must be a sacred bath. It is done with great reverence.

I suggest that we join all of Vrindavan today and take a bath in our mind.

Kindly sit down and center yourself.

Before you is the shimmering water of Radhakund.

Offer your full obeisances and then sprinkle three drops of water on your head.

You wish to make sure that your head respectfully receives the water first and

then you may reverentially enter and take three dips… one, two, three.

And to increase your mindfulness of the specialness of what you just did, you may say the following prayer:

“Srimati Radharani is most dear to Sri Krishna. And Her lake, known as Radhakund, is also very dear to Him. Of all the gopis, Srimati Radharani is certainly the most beloved.”

To end this wonderful meditation, we will say three times Jay Jay Sri Radhe Shyam. Please, say with me: Jay Jay Sri Radhe. Jay Jay Sri Radhe. Jay Jay Sri Radhe Shyam!

Wonderful. See you all tomorrow.
