Sacinandana Swami´s New Year Message 2021

Step off the hamster wheel, start fresh, and have an exciting and fulfilling

Let´s not idealize normalcy!

It is fact that with structure and routine we are able to increase our
effectiveness and efficiency. We appear to be accomplishing so many things,
but without knowing where we are headed, we might end up feeling that life
is entangling us. Such a life is more about making it through than getting

This holds especially true when it comes to our spiritual life. The more we
lose touch with our spiritual goal-our North Star-the more our spiritual
practices feel like obligations or even burdens. We even get caught up in
compensating our emptiness by feverishly working towards projects that then
become excuses.

How to change this? How to step off the hamster wheel and live a vibrant
spiritual life?

First: know that change is possible.
Second: don´t doubt that change is possible.
And third: have faith that change is possible.

Change is possible when we follow the principles of spiritual

1.    Connect with your North Star. Do it on a regular basis. It may be
daily, weekly, bi-weekly. But connect often enough to remain on course.
2.    Define steps and spiritual practices that will bring you to your goal.
Create favourable circumstances to reach these.
3.    Take action (sankalpa). Small steps each day will give success. Pick
steps that you can actually do and build on your strength. Be determined!
4.    Pray! Open up to mercy knowing that you are not the mover, but that
you are being moved.
5.    Expect miracles!

Your North Star will show you where you are going-you will feel invigorated
and enlivened by walking towards it. Divine mercy will carry and empower
you! Thus, feeling vibrant and contented, you will bring increasing benefit
to your life and the lives of others.

How to connect to your North Star?
Here is a very simple exercise that can bring deep insight, or at least get
you started:
Take a moment or two of "me time" (preferably before you start your day).
Take a few smooth, long breaths and let your mind settle in.
Sit in silence and ask yourself, "Who am I? What is my North Star? What is
my next step?"
Let the answers rise from within, and receive them with appreciation and
And then start moving! Paths don´t appear by only thinking them; they come
by walking them.

So, start fresh, and have a vibrant New Year!
