Radharani´s Spirit

There is a disease, which can destroy all the fruits of our spiritual advancement: ENVY.

Srila Prabhupada once remarked: Even in religious life it is sometimes found that if one devotee has advanced in spiritual activities, other devotees are envious of him. Such envious devotees are not completely freed from the causes of birth and death. And as long as one is not completely free from the cause of birth and death, one cannot enter the sanatana-dharma or the eternal pastimes of the Lord.

(SB 9.11.23 purport)

Is it at all possible to completely give up envy? Certainly – but to do so one has to stop identifying with one’s body and mind. And if one accepts the love of Lord Krishna, who has described His affection so nicely, everything becomes much easier!

Lord Krishna says: “Others may be grateful for gifts that have been already given, but I am grateful for gifts that will be given in the future and I reciprocate with these gifts before they have been given.”
(Sarartha Darsini 10.14.35)

Yet still, it is even better to think about Radharani’s spirit, which is to appreciate all others for who they are and to help them. Srila Prabhupada instructed as such:

“If someone in the spiritual world performs greater service, the others appreciate it:

‘How great he is. How much he has advanced in service...´

That is Radharani’s spirit.

Why is Srimati Radharani so worshiped by the devotees? Because Her spirit is like that. If She finds a nice devotee, She immediately recommends him/her to Krishna:

‘This devotee is so nice. He/she can render better service than Me. Please accept him/her.’

This is spiritualism. Who can give better service than Radharani? She is so great that She is captivating Krishna. Krishna can captivate even Madana (cupid). But Radharani captivates Krishna. That is how great She is. (Srila Prabhupada Lecture on SB 7.7.28 in Mombasa, 11th Sep 1971)

So take a deep breath, think about all the affectionate gifts from Our Lord in your life and Radharani’s spirit and breathe out all that useless envy.
