New Year’s Message 2026

Becoming a blessing-seeker

Imagine this scenario: you’ve ticked off everything on your to-do list. You have done everything you could to build a better life – made all the phone calls, written all the messages, made all the plans, and tried to enlist help from all quarters as you enter 2026…
Would there still be something that pulls at your soul and calls you to look for something that is still missing – something that fulfils you on the deepest level?

For me, the only untapped “something” that I often overlook – the one door I would probably not have opened – is blessings.

Especially in spiritual life – but also in all other areas – blessings play a much greater and more decisive role than our own endeavours. On our own steam, we will never be able to cross all the obstacles in life. We will more or less move within the same limiting walls of our little world, perhaps extending our skills a little here and there, like breathing a little deeper but eventually reaching our limit.

But with blessings – divine blessings – we can sail beyond our present possibilities. Why so?

In blessings, the unlimited and unbound power of the spirit becomes activated. Blessings push open the doors for God’s mercy to flood in.

Consider the ancient story of the two pampered sons of Kuvera, the treasurer of the gods. When the great soul Närada came across them, they were enjoying themselves in a drunken stupor. Näradanoticed how stuck they were in their unconscious ways and compassionately blessed them. As a result, they came face to face with Krishna and attained the highest boons – beyond what even the greatest saints could imagine: pure, unlimited love in a direct relationship with God. At the same time, they were also elevated to the heavenly kingdom, with untold opulence at their disposal.

This narration reminds us that blessings can lift us far beyond what our own efforts could ever achieve. The natural question is: from where can we attain such blessings in our own lives? Here are some suggestions:

  • Go to those who can spark and fan your inspiration, and ask them to bestow their good wishes and benedictions upon you.
  • Ask the spiritually blessed to pray for you – and then expect miracles!
  • Go to wisdom texts that have soul – “wisdom that breathes,” as a friend of mine says. Bit by bit, as your perspective widens, such inspired texts will not only speak to you, but also give you wings so that you can fly over your inner walls.
  • Move out of your stifling comfort zone. Take a risk for your growth and ask for divine help. If you are sincere, you are likely to experience divine reciprocation.

Blessings don’t necessarily come in dramatic words like: “O my child, may you be blessed with the most amazing life.” No, not like that. More often than not, they work silently on you from within orappear as unmistakable signs from without, in the form of synchronicities that come without words.

They often come through what is referred to in spiritual circles as the Paramatma-network – actuated by the all-present, all-knowing inner guide, the Supersoul. In this way, blessings are frequently not only beyond the receiver, but even beyond the giver. They are the result of divine grace that spreads like the fragrance of a potent perfume, sensed only by those who are willing to receive.

2026 will bring many changes – both good and difficult ones. Those who are rooted in powerful blessings will not waver, but will be carried in ways beyond their imagination. In the Gétä, Krishna alludes to such blessings when He says:

“Become mindful of Me, and you will cross over all obstacles by My grace.
But if, out of egoism, you will not listen, there is no saying where you will go.”
-Bhagavad-gita 18.58

The one thing that may turn our fortune is to become a seeker of blessings.

I wish you a blessed 2026 and I look forward to staying in touch.
